“The path to our destination is not always a straight one. We go down the wrong road, we get lost, we turn back. Maybe it doesn’t matter which road we embark on. Maybe what matters is that we embark” – Barbara Hall
This is dedicated to anyone who is trying to figure it all out, wondering what is next, how you will get there, and you feel as though your dreams are out of reach.
Lately, I have been thinking a lot about what is next. Some days when I think about it, I am hopeful and willing to trust the process, while some other days that question comes with a heavy burden of societal expectations, my own expectations, comparing myself to others, and any other negative thought I decide to dwell on that day. Amidst all these ups and downs I learned to live in the moment, to be okay with everything I gave my best and to seek growth in any second chances.
These lessons did not come easy, a positive mindset is a muscle that needs to be exercised on a daily basis. Life will always throw curves at us every chance it gets, and the more we recognize those curves, the more we have the muscle to take control. Worrying about your future or about your purpose is perfectly fine. What’s not okay is waiting for that future you envisioned to get to you.
Some of the things that have helped me stay in a calm state of mind when the world around me isn’t are;
- My purpose is MY BEST purpose: I may meet people that have the same dreams as I do, but our journeys, stories, timelines and process’ are different.
- I do not have to know what my purpose is yet, but I can work on figuring it out. And that’s by all means okay!
- I am not alone: Sometimes our mind convinces us that we are alone, and nobody can relate. But I have come to realize that no matter how big or small my worry is, someone out there will understand me and exactly what I am going through.
- No one has everything figured out.
- It always works out and it might not be a big deal in the next one or two months from now. So why treat it like it’s the end of the world now?
- I always remind myself that everything is temporary, therefore this too shall pass.
- Try your best today because that’s the best preparation for tomorrow.
Practicing these thoughts every day, especially in this period of doubt and the unknown, puts me in control of what I feed my mind. Guiding my thoughts to positivity which only gets me closer to my goal or purpose.
I pray that you stay kind to yourself if you are in the grey season. Give yourself a break, remember that you are not alone and eventually you will find the answers you are looking for.
Xoxo
